MUTABLE aims to improve public transport in rural areas by strengthening regional mobility management capacities. The project focuses on three regions with similar challenges: the District of Central Saxony in Germany, the Tolna Region (Paks and its surroundings) in Hungary, and the Goričko area in Slovenia. These areas face issues such as decentralization, population decline, and weak connections to urban centers, which limit access to services, jobs, and education, and contribute to lower quality of life and socio-economic stagnation.
To address these challenges, MUTABLE focuses on optimizing existing public transport systems rather than building new infrastructure. The project introduces mobility managers as key coordinators who analyze local needs and work with citizens, authorities, and service providers to improve transport services. Through pilot actions in three demonstration sites, demand-responsive transport solutions will be tested to develop more efficient, user-centered mobility systems.
The project will strengthen the capacity of public authorities to manage public transport, while citizens will benefit from improved mobility options and better connectivity. Public transport providers will gain valuable insights and feedback from the pilot actions, helping them improve services and allocate resources more efficiently.
The project’s transnational cooperation allows regions facing similar challenges to share knowledge and jointly develop scalable solutions. This collaboration will support the development of mobility management strategies and best practices that can be applied in other rural and peripheral regions.

Yesterday, the MUTABLE project partnership meeting, part of the Interreg Central Europe program, was successfully held in Döbeln, Germany.
We spent a truly productive and inspiring day together with the project partners. After the opening remarks, we reviewed important issues related to project management, including the cooperation agreement, monitoring processes, and communication.
We concluded the day with a guided local tour, which provided an excellent opportunity for informal conversations and the exchange of experiences.
