The CDDA Central Danube Development Agency Nonprofit Ltd. received a grant of EUR 191,176 for the implementation of the DETOCS project within the framework of the INTERREG EUROPE Program, in which it participates as a consortium partner.

The European Union has decided to decarbonize its economy by 2050 due to the need to mitigate and adapt to climate change. At the same time, it wants to increase its energy security, self-sufficiency and competitiveness. The current energy crisis has skyrocketed the fuel and electricity prices, threatening the viability and profitability of the tourism infrastructure.

In order to recovering the tourism infrastructure sector of the EU, on a sustainable and low-carbon manner, after the Covid-19 pandemic, in that new environment of the energy crisis, the main challenge of the DETOCS project is to comply with long-term EU policies aimed at decarbonizing the economy.

During the implementation of the project, the partner regions learn and exchange good practices, while improving regional policies by building the capacity of the participating regions and adopting successful policies.

The goals of the project are as follows:

1. Promoting the decarbonisation of the tourism infrastructure;
2. Increasing the energy efficiency of the tourism infrastructure;
3. Increasing the energy self-sufficiency of the tourism industry;
4. Supporting new types of tourism with low energy consumption and carbon footprint;
5. Helping them to deal with the current energy crisis, which is increasing the proportion of energy costs within their total operating costs, endangers their profitability and economic viability.

The CDDA Nonprofit Ltd. in accordance with the legal requirements, has recently prepared the Situation Analysis, establishing the development of the Priority Area, as well as the Development Concept of the Area, and its Strategic and Operational Program.

Among other things, the operative program contains the goals of energy-related sustainability, includes the use of renewable energy sources and the increasing of the energy efficiency of the buildings . The OP is based on the national and country development strategies, which primarily dealing with the energetic modernization of the building stock in the region.

Participation in the DETOCS Program serves to achieve the objectives set out in priority 4 of the Operative Program, „The innovation and implementation of environmental friendly (green) developments"  encouraging the use of renewable energy, particularly the use of solar energy.

Participating in the DETOCS Program, CDDA Nonprofit Ltd. can gain experience and professional knowledge by getting to know the energy efficiency and renewable energy-related projects of other European Union countries. Can also receive information about the best practices of the countries, using these experience and information to review and expand individual policy recommendations.

The DETOCS project contributes to the achievement of the objectives formulated along the related priority 4 of the Operative program by learning about new approaches related to energy efficiency measures and new technologies used to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases.
